Elevation Mechanism:
There are manual and electronic types of elevation control. The
manual control is self explanatory and is generally found in lower
end-treadmills. There are a number of different types of power
incline. The best advice (especially with folding treadmills) is to
AVOID rear elevating designs. This type of design is very strenuous
to the lift motor, because users continually impact at the rear of
the treadmill. The frame also bounces a great deal with this
elevation design. Try to purchase a treadmill with a front
elevation design, as this is the most popular type, and is less
prone to breakdown. Lastly, make sure that you purchase a treadmill
with power incline only if the computer monitor indicates the level
of the incline on its display. You want to have a point of
reference as to what your incline level is. This allows you to
continue at the same level the next time around.
You should look for an elevation motor to have at least a 400lbs
lift capacity. Remember that the elevation motor has to lift the
weight of the deck, you and your impact weight.
